NEW ROCHELLE, NY — 2015 New Rochelle Annual Report Released
City Remains a Top Safest Regionally and Nationally
The City of New Rochelle retained its ranking as one of the safest cities nationally in 2014, according to the 2015 Annual Report released this week by the New Rochelle Police Department.
The City was the 13th safest city nationwide in 2014 out of 110 similarly-sized cities (population 80,000- 99,999). Additionally, the City of New Rochelle retains the lowest crime rate among similar municipalities in Westchester County and New York State.
In 2015, the department responded to over 50,000 calls for service. Incorporated in the annual report were Part I crime statistics for 2015, showing an overall decrease in Burglaries (5%) and Aggravated Assault (7%). When compared to figures over the past decade, the crime rate remains historically low.
“We are very gratified with the outstanding low crime rates for New Rochelle” said New Rochelle Police Commissioner Patrick Carroll. “The violent crime category (which includes murders, assaults, rape and robbery) is the lowest since 1999.”
The report also mentions departmental accomplishments, including the increase of DWI enforcement (23%) and Robbery arrests (92%). New Rochelle Police Department launched Project Lifesaver, a new initiative to assist families to help locate missing Autistic or developmentally disabled members using wristband transmitters.
