NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Iona Preparatory School is inviting parents of students in grades 6-8 to a workshop titled Crucial Skills for Parenting Your Middle School Adolescent. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 11, at Iona Preparatory Lower School, 173 Stratton Road, New Rochelle.

Nancy Kessler, a longtime social worker at Iona Preparatory Upper School, will lead the workshop. Ms. Kessler has 30 years of experience working with parents and children as a counselor and presenter. She was recognized as an “Unsung Hero” by Westchester Magazine in its March 2016 issue for fostering student achievement through sensitivity, empathy and guidance.

Ms. Kessler will focus her presentation on helping parents to support their children’s navigation of the pre- and early teen years. She’ll also share tips for coping during what often becomes a stormy, stressful time for families.

“I find that since life is so complex and busy, and parenting can feel that way at times, it is best to – as the expression goes – keep it simple,” she said. “I will break down some parent strategies we have all heard over the years into simple, easy-to-remember tips.”

Parents planning to attend are encouraged to RSVP at www.ionaprep.org/apps/forms2/?f=3815.
