WHITE PLAINS, NY — The Thruway Authority today announced construction for the New NY Bridge which will require a triple lane closure on the northbound Tappan Zee Bridge (I-87/I-287) beginning Friday night, April 29. One northbound lane will remain open to traffic.
Lane closures will start Friday, April 29 at 9 p.m., and continue until Saturday, April 30 at 2 p.m., and then begin again on Saturday, April 30 at 9 p.m., and last until Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m.
During the majority of this work, three northbound lanes will be closed and one northbound lane will be open to traffic.
All three lanes in the southbound direction will remain open on the Tappan Zee Bridge during the entire weekend.
Motorists traveling northbound on I-87/I-287 in the vicinity of the Tappan Zee Bridge should plan for severe delays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday; motorists are advised to plan accordingly, including seeking alternate routes.
All northbound lanes are expected to reopen on Saturday and Sunday by 2 p.m.
Variable Message Signs (VMS) across the region and Highway Advisory Radio 530 AM will advise motorists about the upcoming closures and expected delays. Motorists are strongly advised to avoid travel in this area during this time.
In case of inclement weather, the work will be postponed until Friday, May 6 beginning at 9 p.m., with completion by Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m.
