NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A woman standing on a sidewalk was killed Sunday near downtown New Rochelle after a car jumped a curb and struck her.
Shortly before 6 p.m., Florence Reid, 56 was involved in an auto-pedestrian accident near 349 North Avenue involving two vehicles and a pedestrian.
According to New Rochelle Police, a 1999 GMC Jimmy operated by a Bronx resident was traveling northbound on North Avenue near Lawn Avenue when the vehicle mounted the sidewalk and struck Reid, a pedestrian.
Reid suffered injuries to her torso and legs, she was conscious at the scene and treated by ambulance and fire department personnel. She was subsequently transported to a local hospital in Critical condition, and was pronounced dead at 10:43 pm while in the operating room.

There will be a candle light memorial held in front of 347 North Avenue at around 6:00 PM to honor Reid, a popular figure in the neighborhood.
