Astorino Encourages Westchester Participation In The ‘Be The Match’ Corporate Challenge

Written By: Talk of the Sound News

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino is encouraging all Westchester businesses, as well as county employees, to participate in the Be the Match Corporate Challenge during the week of May 9th – 13th.

Operated by the National Marrow Donor Program, Be the Match is the world’s largest and most diverse bone marrow registry for connecting transplant patients diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell anemia with donors. For the corporate challenge, volunteers can either register as a potential donor or give financial support to the organization.

The process to become a donor is simple and painless. After registering, participants go to one of the four registration centers where their DNA is put into the Be the Match database by simply using a mouth swab.

“This is great a way for the Westchester community to support an important cause and save lives,” said County Executive Astorino. “There will be an opportunity to register in the lobby of the Michaelian Office Building, in White Plains, on May 13th and I encourage our county employees to participate.”

Volunteers can register at one of the various sites throughout the county or go online to www.bethematchfoundation.org/goto/westchesterchallenge to become a donor.
