NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A new playground will be built at Feeney Park this spring, thanks to a generous “Build it with KaBOOM!” Playground Grant. KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging active play through great play spaces, has partnered with MetLife Foundation for the funds, tools and resources for a custom-made playground at this popular City site. The grant is a joint endeavor between the City of New Rochelle Department of Parks and Recreation and the Boys and Girls Club of New Rochelle.
“Feeney Park is one of New Rochelle’s most historic and popular neighborhood parks,” said Parks and Recreation Commissioner Bill Zimmermann. “Thanks to our new Community Partnership with KaBOOM! and their partners, we are thrilled to be able to bring our Master Plan goal of a new playground to reality.”
“The Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle is excited to partner with The City of New Rochelle to build a new playground for the community and our members,” said Lutonya Russel-Humes, Executive Director. “Encouraging a healthy lifestyle that includes physical activity and play is a core component of what we do at BGCNR. Ensuring that children have safe places to play makes it easier to instill that.”
On Friday April 20, New Rochelle Parks and Recreation Commissioner Bill Zimmermann and Executive Director of New Rochelle Boys and Girls Club Lutonya Russel-Humes with Councilman Louis Trangucci attended a Playground Design meeting with local children and families within the Boys & Girls Club’s Mascaro Unit, in advance of the playground Build Day on June 3- just in time for summer enjoyment!
In preparation for the KaBOOM! community playground build day of June 3rd, park staff will begin the site preparation and old playground equipment removal on Saturday morning, May 7.
