NEW YORK, NY — On Monday, May 23, from 6:00pm-9:00pm, medical staff from NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital will present vital information to Westchester County’s high school juniors and seniors with an interest in a career in medicine and surgery. Over 150 students from across the County have already registered for NYP/Lawrence Hospital’s first “Careers in Medicine” interactive workshop which will take place inBronxville High School’s Blue Gym.
More than thirty NewYork-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital physicians, surgeons, pharmacists, therapists and other health workers will inspire tomorrow’s doctors by providing hands-on teaching experiences that will help students learn more about careers in the healthcare profession. Students will watch exploratory videos and images of various surgeries and procedures, learn how to take vital signs, examine disease-causing organisms, discuss anatomic models and try out their CPR and intubation skills on mannequins set up throughout the Bronxville High School Blue Gymnasium.
Medical staff from a variety of specialties including surgery, anesthesia, cardiology, emergency medicine, pediatrics, sleep medicine, radiation oncology, orthopedicsand obstetrics and gynecology will be present to educate students. High schoolers will collaborate with one another and connect with doctors and other medical staff individuallyto discover insights into their respective medical specialties.
