Community Leaders and Organizations Honored at New Rochelle Council of Community Services Luncheon; $1,000 Scholarship Awarded to Two NRHS Juniors

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Council of Community Services (NRCCS) honored three outstanding community leaders and organizations at their annual luncheon on Thursday June 9th, at Beckwith Pointe in New Rochelle.

The 2016 honorees were: transFORM the art of custom storage ; Milijana “Millie” Radonjic-Ilich, Coordinator of Amy’s Greenhouse and Creator of the Committee of the Hudson Park Children’s Greenhouse; and Gustavo Barbosa, House 1 Principal at New Rochelle High School. Both individuals and the business exemplify service to the New Rochelle community. Andreas Messis, Co-Founder of transFORM accepted the ward on behalf of his organization, along with Kara O’Neill, transFORM Gallery Director.

The NRCCS also awarded its annual $1,000 scholarship to two deserving New Rochelle High School juniors: Jonathan Reyes and Michelle Zhi Hui Zhang. Both have demonstrated the mission of the New Rochelle Council of Community Services by extraordinary volunteer work for various New Rochelle entities, including the Youth Council and the Boys and Girls Club of New Rochelle.

The New Rochelle Council of Community Services, established in 1936, is a 501c3 non-profit umbrella organization for the health and human service agencies, religious institutions, and educational facilities of New Rochelle. NRCCS provides an important opportunity for service-providers and community administrators to make vital connections and address community needs. In celebration of its 80th anniversary, NRCCS luncheon tables were adorned with oak tree cuts and branches, oak being the symbol of an 80th anniversary.
