07/12 International Music and Dance Series at the New Rochelle Public Library to Open with Irish Music and Dance 7 PM

NEW ROCHELLE, NY –Lively Irish step dancing and Celtic harp music will kick-off the 33rd annual International Music and Dance series at the New Rochelle Public Library. The opening show on Tuesday, July 12th, from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm, will feature star students of the Deirdre O’Mara School of Irish Dance, located in Yonkers.  Seating for the free program is on a first-come/first-served basis, to the capacity of the library’s 138-seat Ossie Davis Theater. Doors open at 6:45 pm. 

The library’s International Music and Dance series will continue on Tuesday, July 19th with a La Troupe Zetwal performance of traditional dances of Haiti, with live drumming, Zouk (a French Caribbean social dance) and Soukous (an Angola-based rhythm.) Arabian Dance by Aszmara, with music of Armenia, Turkey and Egypt, will be performed on Tuesday, July 26th. Music of Java and Bali will be performed by Son of Lion Gamelan, one of the oldest handmade gamelan orchestras in America, on Tuesday, August 2nd.  Bokandeye African Dance and Drum Troupe will take the stage on Tuesday, August 9th. The series conclude with a special outdoor performance by Calpulli Mexican Dance Company, on Saturday, August 20th at 1:00 pm.
