Police called to Drake Avenue for alleged drug use: New Rochelle Police responded to a report of drug use April 21 in an apartment building on Drake Avenue, according to a New Rochelle Police report. Officers did not find evidence of drug use.
Thieves steal boot from car: New Rochelle Police responded to a report April 21 of a missing boot from a car at Safeway Towing, according to a police report. The responding officer interviewed the towing company manager who told the officer that on April 14 one of his drivers placed a boot on a vehicle. On April 18, when he asked one of his drivers to check on the boot, the driver discovered that the car and the boot were missing, the report states. The manager also told police that the boot is valued at $600 and he wished to pursue charges. A check with the DMV revealed that the vehicle’s plates were voluntarily surrendered on April 20, the report said.
Man restrains lawn ornament thief; calls police: New Rochelle Police responded to a call April 24 from a New Rochelle house where someone had allegedly stolen a lawn ornament, according to a police report. Officers interviewed the complainant, who asked officers to arrest the man he claimed to have just restrained for stealing his lawn ornament, the report said. The man told police he was inside his house when he saw the suspect jump onto his lawn, run towards the front door and pick up the frog lawn ornament and walk away. He said the suspect started running south on Fifth Avenue when he yelled at the suspect to stop. He then caught the suspect, he told police. The complainant said the honey-colored lawn ornament was sentimental to him as he had inherited it from his grandmother, the report said. The suspect apologized for stealing the ornament and showed the complainant where he hid the ornament, the report said. When the complainant recovered it, it had been chipped, the report said. The complaint agreed not to press charges.
Juveniles flee gas station after trying to pass counterfeit money: New Rochelle Police were called to Super Gas on Main Street May 1 about a theft, according to a police report. The complainant told police that two young males, possibly Hispanic and approximately 16 or 17 years old purchased $20 worth of gas and attempted to pay with what he believed was a fake $100 bill, the police report said. The complainant said when he refused to accept the alleged counterfeit money, the suspects drove away from the gas station to Woodland Avenue, the report said. The complainant also told police that he saw the 2005 Acura heading north on Beachwood Avenue. The complainant did not want to pursue charges.
Man assaulted after getting kicked out of Spectators: A New Rochelle man told police that he was assaulted by several men May 1 after getting kicked out of Spectators Pub. Police interviewed the complainant, who told them that after he was escorted out of the pub by a security guard, he was chased northbound on North Avenue and kicked twice by a large white man and a large black man. He told police he was kicked in the back, neck and head. However, the man admitted to being intoxicated and changed his version of events several times, the police report states. The man sustained scratches to the left side of his face and neck and an abrasion on his right elbow, the report said. He also complained of neck pain, the report said. He received treatment by Empress Ambulance employees, but refused further treatment. Video surveillance of the area showed the man being chased by a group of men and engaged in a physical altercation at North Avenue and Anderson Street, the report said. The security guard told an officer that the man was escorted out of the pub after he pushed a security guard. Once outside, the man approached several security guards with clenched fists, the report said. He was then ordered by the guards to leave the area peacefully, the report said.
Shoplifter leaves with stolen goods leaving behind identification: An unknown female allegedly stole personal hygiene products from a CVS store April 30 and ran away leaving behind her ID cards. Police responded to the CVS pharmacy located on North Avenue where the complainant told police he saw the woman pick up body washes and other personal hygiene products and conceal them in a blue and red bag. When she was approached by the complainant, she fled the store dropping the blue bag, which also contained identification cards, the complainant told police. The incident was captured on video surveillance, the report said. Officers canvassed the area but could not locate the woman.
Extortionist threatens man via WhatsApp: A New Rochelle man allegedly received death threats April 30 for failing to pay an individual through the cell phone app WhatsApp, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The complainant told police that he has been receiving numerous messages from different numbers in his WhatsApp profile from people asking him to send money overseas. He told police an unknown person is threatening to harm him and his family if he fails to pay them. He told police the threats began April 19 after receiving a friend request from what he thought was a woman. The woman initially offered him sexual favors and afterwards threatened to report the incident as prostitution, the report said. After receiving numerous messages threatening him with lawsuits, immigration deportation and harm to him and his family, the man decided to send $300 to the overseas address, he told police. However, prior to sending the money, employees at DolEx money transfer advised him to cancel the transaction, screen shot the messages, delete the WhatsApp from his cell phone and contact police, the police report said.
Woman receives cell phone charges made by unknown person: A New Rochelle woman allegedly received several unauthorized charges to her cell phone account May 6 by an unknown person, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The complainant told police she received her cell phone bill and discovered charges she did not make. She said the charges were for $199 for an iPhone 6S, $40 for a plan upgrade and $20 for tax, totaling $260, the report said. She also told police when she contacted Verizon they cancelled the charges immediately. She was notified by Verizon that the charges were made during a phone call with a man who has the same first name as the complainant’s. The complainant told police she believes the fraud was perpetrated by a mentally disturbed person living in the building, the police report states. The woman told police that the man asks her for cigarettes, toilet paper and is a general nuisance to the apartment complex.
Wrought iron chairs stolen from front patio: A pair of chairs was allegedly stolen May 5 from the front patio of a New Rochelle home, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The complainant told police that he saw the chairs in place when he left his house around 5:45 p.m. but when he returned home around 7 p.m., he found both the chairs missing, the report said. The complainant said he did not know who might have taken them, and there is no video surveillance in the area, the report said.
Sunglasses, auxiliary cable stolen from car: A New Rochelle woman told police that a pair of sunglasses and an auxiliary cable were stolen from her car May 5. The complainant told officers that she parked her car at the location on April 29. When she returned to the car on April 30, she noticed that a pair of sunglasses valued at $30 and an auxiliary cable valued at $40 was missing from the car, the report said. She also told police that the car was locked and she did not hear sounds of an alarm during the night. Officers did not see any sign of forced entry to the car, the police report said. The complainant told police she did not see anyone suspicious in the area and there are no surveillance cameras present near the location.
Unknown person opens fraudulent Verizon account: A New Rochelle told police that an unknown person opened two Verizon credit card accounts under his name May 3. The complainant told police that he received his credit card report in the mail and noticed that two Verizon accounts were opened under his name in 2014. One account is $1,607 and was closed on Sept 30, 2014. The second account was opened on the same day for $1,630 and was closed August 31, 2014. The complainant also told police he notified Verizon and they told him they would investigate the incident, the police report said.
Several women, man involved in road rage altercation: New Rochelle Police responded to an automobile accident May 3 which involved a physical argument, according to a New Rochelle Police report. When officers arrived at the location on North Avenue, they found a vehicle stopped in the road blocking both southbound lanes on North Avenue, the report said. Another vehicle was also stopped facing south bound on North Avenue, the report said. The operator of the vehicle told police she was traveling south bound and tried to change lanes but a person driving a gray car would not let her over so she passed the car and went in front of him on North Avenue, she told police. That’s when she noticed someone in the gray car taking pictures of her license plate, she told police. She then stopped her car, got out and told the man to stop taking pictures of her when suddenly, the people in the other car jumped on her, and she told police. Police interviewed the man in the gray car, who told him that the woman driving the black Acura cut him off by blocking the two lanes of southbound side of North Avenue. The woman then showed the man in the gray car the middle finger and that’s why he took pictures of her license plate to avoid further problems, he told police. He said the woman then exited her car and started banging and yelling at him while he was inside his car. When he asked her to stop and leave, the woman punched him in the right eye with a closed fist, he told police. The woman then walked over to the passenger side of his car and got into a physical altercation with his wife and daughter, he told police. The man said he then called 911. Another witness to the incident told the officer that he saw the black car, which was driven by a black female cut the gray car off as it traveled southbound on North Avenue. The witness told police that he then saw the woman get out of her car and bang on the other car’s driver’s side door and window, the report said. She then went around the car and started a physical altercation with the passengers of the car, the witness told police. Another witness said he observed three women fighting in the street and that a black woman hit one of the other women in the face, the report said. All parties involved were taken to the police headquarters and pictures of their injuries were taken with a patrol camera. None of the parties wished to pursue charges, the police report said.
Man threatens to kill Iona College student through GroupMe app: A New Rochelle man told police he received a threatening message May 7 to his cell phone through the GroupMe app, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The message threatened to kill the complainant’s roommate, the report said. The complainant told police he was afraid his roommate may have been kidnapped while leaving Beechmont Tavern on North Avenue. The victim who is an Iona College student, lived off campus with two other roommates at Clove Road, the report said. Police arrived at the victim’s residence and searched for him but did not find him. His roommate told police he received a message in his GroupMe app saying: “Sam’s gone. I am aiming you’re friends based off passed conversations on his phone. Do not call the cops or else you’ll find his body in a bag. If you ever want to see him again meet at New Rochelle parliament at 6 a.m. with just his closest friends. There’s no telling what we will do with him.” The complainant described the victim as a 22-year-old white male, 5.9” tall, with blonde hair and a goatee, the report said. The victim was wearing a button down shirt and khaki pants, the report said. The second roommate told police he saw the victim at 10:30 p.m. May 6 at the Beechmont Tavern. The man told police that the victim may have been talking to his girlfriend throughout the evening on social media, and that the victim was a type of person that would send a message like this as a hoax, he told police. Police failed to locate the alleged victim.
Man robbed of pouch with address book and papers: A New Rochelle told police that he was robbed by another man, who took his small pouch containing an address book and personal papers May 6. The complainant told police that the suspect approached him as he was getting to the southwest corner of the Parish house. The complainant described the man as a light-skinned male, possibly Hispanic, around 25 years old, 5’7” tall, clean shaven, dark hair and approximately 270 pounds, according to the report. The suspect was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head and dark color pants, the report said. Officers canvassed the area for the suspect but did not locate him, the report said. A witness told police that he saw the complainant and the suspect talking and thought they knew each other. As he was walking inside his home, he saw the complainant yell at the suspect, who ran towards the back of the church, the report said.
Identity thieves attempt to open credit card account, file income tax in woman’s name: A New Rochelle woman told police an unknown person May 3 tried to open a General Motors and three Discover cards in her name but were denied credit. The complainant told police that on April 6, Capital One Bank called her to let her know that an unknown person tried to open a General Motors account in her name but that the transaction had been cancelled. About the same time, she was contacted by Discover Card notifying her that someone attempted to open three accounts in her name, however these applications were also cancelled, and the police report said. She told police that someone from the IRS also told her that someone was using her information to file income tax returns. The complainant is filing charges against the individuals, the report said.
Burglar flees after alarm goes off: A New Rochelle man told police someone tried to break in to his home May 14, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The homeowner told police that his home alarm sounded about 3 a.m. He told police that he ran downstairs and found the kitchen window slightly ajar. When the complainant looked at the window later that morning, he noticed the clasp lock on the double hung window had been forced, he told police. Responding officers found the home owner trying to fix the window lock with caulking. The officer also found pry mark on the wooden window frame, smudge marks on the sill but could not find any fingerprints, the report said. The complainant told police his alarm is very loud which apparently caused the suspect to flee, the police report said.
Couple leave Chinese Buffet without paying for meal: Employees at the Chinese Buffet restaurant on Main Street told police a couple left the restaurant May 13 without paying for the meal. The manager told police that around 5:15 p.m., an unknown black man wearing blue jeans, a black jacket and a New York Yankees hat, and accompanied by a black female, entered the restaurant and ate a meal. However, they left without paying the $35.75 bill, the police report said. The manager could not provide further information about the couple or which direction they went, the report said. The complainant told police he wanted to document the incident and would call back if the parties returned, the police report said.
Man jumps from taxi without paying fare: A New Rochelle cab driver told police a man jumped from her taxi May 13 without paying the fare. The complainant told police she picked up the man at Union Avenue at the City Taxi base, and said the man wanted to go to an address in the Bronx. The complainant also said since the man was acting strange, she asked him to pay for the fair up front, the report said. At this point the man got very angry and started to shout at her and bang on the window, she told police. She said the man suddenly opened the door and jumped from the cab at the intersection of Webster Avenue and Lockwood Avenue without paying the $25 fare, the police report said. She described the man as a heavy set Hispanic male, approximately 5’8” tall. He was wearing athletic shorts with a red jersey-style shirt, the report said.
Man fraudulently orders prescription drug at CVS pharmacy: A pharmacist at CVS in New Rochelle told police an unknown person fraudulently ordered prescription drugs and picked them up from the pharmacy May 12. The pharmacist told police on May 8, someone phoned in a prescription. The man on the other end told her he was a licensed physician and he was ordering it for a patient, the report said. At 5 p.m., the man showed up at the pharmacy, identified himself and the pharmacist gave him Oxycodone, she told police. However, when she called to verify the prescription later, the person on the other end told her he did not order the medicine, the pharmacist told police. She told police she didn’t ask the man for ID but she provided the police with the name he used. She described the person as a black male, in his 20s or 30s, 5’8” tall with dreadlocks, the report said. She also said she never saw the man before and will ask the store manager for the video footage of the incident, the report said.
Man’s wife harassed by his ex-wife: A New Rochelle woman told police she is being harassed by her husband’s the ex-wife. The victim told police that on May 11, her husband’s ex-wife called her from a blocked cell phone, called her names and claimed that her husband was with another woman, the police report said. She also said the woman calls her continuously from a blocked number and harasses her, the report said. Officers interviewed the husband, who told him that his ex-wife constantly harasses his wife and even drives by the house. He said although he does not want to have any contact with his ex-wife, she still calls him. He also told the officer that his ex-wife drove past his house just before he arrived. The man pressed charges, the report said.
