Offensive Onslaught Leads Men’s Soccer to 5-1 Victory at Harcum

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s soccer team continued its outstanding start to the 2016 season on Saturday with a 5-1 victory over Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. The Mustangs, ranked #15 in the nation, have opened the season with three straight victories, outscoring their opponents 9-2 during that span.

Monroe opened the scoring with a goal from Gabriel Machado just five minutes into action. This was Machado’s second-straight game with a goal. In the 28th minute, Machado picked up an assist as he found Ignacio Goya for the marker, doubling the score. The score remained at 2-0 into halftime.

Monroe added three second-half goals to earn the 5-1 win. Machado found the back of the net for a second time in the 51st minute, off of a feed from Evan Finnegan. The score rose to 4-1 as Machado found Isaac Tavarez for the marker. With two minutes left to the match, Javier Belmonte scored off a pass from Ben Mardones to close out scoring.

Machado picked up a pair of goals and two assists in the game. He leads the team with goals on the season.

The Monroe College men’s soccer team will host its home opener on Thursday, September 8th, against Ocean County College at 7 PM.
