NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle Mens Soccer team remained unbeaten after Wednesday night’s 4-1 victory over City College in non-conference action at City Field. The Blue Angels have won five straight while CCNY drops to 2-3.
Freshmen Angel Gonzalez (Fort Lauderdale, FL) scored his first collegiate goal in the 3rd minute of play off a cross from freshmen Jovanni Garcia (Garden Grove, CA) to give CNR the quick lead.
CCNY struck back in the 15th minute when Marcus DePompeis connected on a pass from Anthony Scarallo to tie the game. For the next twelve minutes CNR outplayed the Beavers and took the lead on a goal by Nicorey Warren (Brooklyn, NY) and moments later was awarded a penalty kick in the 29th minute. But, Garcia’s attempt was blocked by City’s keeper to keep the game level. Two minutes later the skies opened up and lightning forced an hour delay.
Once play resumed, CCNY had the better of the play and nearly drew even on a shot that was cleared off the line by freshmen defender Daniel De Los Rios (Wellington, FL).
In the 63rd minute CNR tallied its third goal when Warren crossed a ball that was flicked on by freshmen Cesar Rodriguez (Santa Ana, CA) to freshmen Gabriel Lopez (Madrid, Spain) on the back post. Lopez drove a left footed shot into the far post to push the lead to 3-1. Moments later Del Los Rios and Rodriguez set up Garcia for the fourth and final tally for New Rochelle.
CNR outshot City College 21-14 while CCNY held the edge in corners 10-8. New Rochelle travels to Penn State Harrisburg this Sunday.
