NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The women’s soccer team played the Monroe Community College Tribunes on Saturday to a 1-1 draw. The two teams faced each other in the District championship last season, which resulted in a 1-0 win for the Mustangs.
Monroe College had a number of attempts on goal within the first 30 minutes. A shot by Maia Williams was saved by the Tribunes’ goalkeeper, as was a follow-up attempt by Gabrielle Pereira. Elysa Virela, however, connected with Brooke Smith shortly thereafter for the first goal of the game. Monroe Community College would even the score before the half at 1-1.
The Mustangs had seven shots on goal in the second half, which the Tribunes’ goalie successfully defended. Monroe goalkeeper Marta Alemany would turn aside a pair of shots, including one in overtime to keep the game tied at 1-1 at the game’s end.
The Mustangs are currently 3-0-1 for the season. They next play ASA on Friday, September 30.
