NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Led by a 20 kill performance by freshmen Imani Debose (Carson, CA), the College of New Rochelle Women’s Volleyball returned to its winning ways with a 3-1 over Maritime College Thursday night in the Wellness Center. The non-conference win improves CNR’s record to 3-6 while the Privateers fall to 5-6 on the season.
CNR ran out to an early lead in the first set and eventually won 25-17. Set two also went to CNR by a narrow 25-22 margin. The third set belonged to Maritime, as they won 25-17. But, the final set was dominated by CNR, particularly the serve of senior Tiany Perez Diaz (Juncos, PR) who picked up four of her game-high seven aces in the final frame to give CNR a 25-12 win.
The night belonged to Debose who hit a sizzling 0.630, putting down 20 of her 27 attempts. Senior Melanie Ann Lopez Soto (Gurabo, PR) picked up 26 assists, while freshmen Cristal Liciaga (San Juan, PR) tallied 14 helpers and eight kills, as well as five aces. Senior Indigo Flowers (San Francisco, CA) had a big night at the net, earning three block assists and a solo block.
Maritime was led by Carly Lombardo who picked up 15 kills on the evening. Erika Bailey had 31 assists for the Privateers.
CNR will travel to Montclair on Saturday to play the hosts and also Brooklyn College.
