NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College volleyball team fell in straight sets at Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon, 3-0. The Bobcats controlled the first two sets (25-18, 25-20) and come from behind in the third (25-15) to hand the Gaels their second loss in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
Sophomore Claire Archibald had a team-high seven kills. Freshman Tess Connolly, sophomore Taylor Bannister, and senior Kassandra Darnaby eac had four kills. Sophomore Jessica Paolucci led the Gaels with 14 digs. Connolly and Archibald had eight and six digs, respectively.
Sophomore Kait Ferretti had a team-high 16 assists for Iona. Sophomore Emma Rose finished with 11 helpers.
Quinnipiac was led by senior Allison Leigh’s nine kills. Freshman Maria Pansari had a game-high 26 assists. The Bobcats recorded eight blocks compared to just two for the Gaels. Quinnipiac’s sophomores Jen Coffey and Kat Miller each had a solo block.
Iona continues MAAC play Sunday, Sept. 25 at Fairfield.
