Iona Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets at Fairfield

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College volleyball program fell at Fairfield in straight sets, 3-0.  The Stags led the entirety of the first set, sealing it with a 25-17 score.  The Gaels forced five ties and two lead changes in the second set, but fell short of coming back, 25-19.  The match came to a close in the third with the Stags controlling the set, 25-18.

Sophomore Claire Archibald had a team-high eight kills and 28 attack chances.  Freshman Mia Bonsignore recorded six kills, and upperclassmen Kassandra Darnaby and Karly White each had four kills.

Sophomore Emma Rose had a team-high 12 sets.  Fellow sophomore Kait Ferretti ended up with 11 assists.  Fellow second year player Jessica Paolucci had a match-high 20 digs.

White had two solo blocks and Bonsignore earned one.  Gaels ended with a team total of seven blocks.

Junior Skyler Day had a match-high 12 kills and 14 points scored for Fairfield.  Senior Megan O’Sullivan ended the day with 10 kills and just one attack error.  She was responsible for 11.5 points scored.

Iona volleyball returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7:00 PM when NJIT travels to the Hynes Athletics Center for the Gaels final non-conference match of the season.
