NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s soccer team faced its toughest test of the season when it faced Rowan College at Burlington County on Saturday, but ultimately came away with a 2-0 win. With the victory, Monroe is now 9-0 on the season.
The Mustangs backline managed to hold their opponents without a shot the entire game. Goalie Svyat Kozak didn’t need to make any saves to earn the clean sheet, thanks to impressive defensive work from Pablo Pertusa, Evan Finnegan, Antonio Sanchez, and Osman Fofanah.
Monroe got on the scoreboard in the 24th minute when Gabriel Machado played a ball to Felipe Hideki, who found the back of the net. Hideki leads the team in goals this season.
The Mustangs doubled the score 9 ½ minutes later when Luiz Soupinski connected with Jamal Manley West, who scored. Monroe led 2-0 at the break.
Neither side could manage a second-half score, and the Mustangs went on to win 2-0. Finnegan and Machado each managed a shot in addition to a pair from West and Hideki. Monroe has now outscored its opponents 48-2 this season.
The Monroe College men’s soccer team will return to action on Saturday, October 1st, hosting Bunker Hill Community College at City Park. The kickoff is slated for 7:00 PM.
