Dear Friends:
I would like to invite you to our first ever Youth and Police Initiative (YPI) Certification Ceremony on Tuesday, October 4th at 7 pm in the City Council Chambers at New Rochelle City Hall. Effective community policing requires that the community and police come together and form partnerships to solve problems. I am proud of the progress our community has made in this area thus far, starting with our piloting team that included community representation from key anchor institutions such as Shiloh Baptist Church, Bethesda Baptist Church and New York Covenant Church.
This past year, we held four separate YPI sessions where New Rochelle Police officers, community leaders, and high school students participated in weeklong sessions designed to break down barriers of distrust between young people and police officers. We are thankful for the efforts of the New Rochelle Police Department, New Rochelle City School District, Boys and Girls Club of New Rochelle and the New Rochelle Municipal Housing Authority in joining together to create improved community/police relations and better life outcomes for our young people.
At 6:15 pm, prior to the presentation of certificates, refreshments will be served to those attending the ceremony.
We hope you can join us. Thank you.
Sincerely,
David Peters
YPI Facilitator
