NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College volleyball team earned a three-set sweep of NJIT in non-conference action at the Hynes Center. Sophomore OH Claire Archibald led the Gaels with 16 kills and a .469 hitting percentage in the 25-22, 25-20, 25-16 victory.
Archibald committed just one error in 32 attempts. She posted two aces and a block to account for her 19 total points along with seven digs defensively. Sophomore RS Mia Bonsignore added a season-best 11 kills while hitting .348. Bonsignore had two blocks in the win. Sophomore OH Amanda Gannon had seven kills, senior MB Karly White posted five kills, three blocks and two aces and junior RS Kassandra Darnaby posted four kills in the win. Sophomore setters Emma Rose and Kait Ferretti combined for 38 assists. Rose posted 21 while Ferretti had 17 and each posted seven digs. Sophomore libero Jessica Paolucci had a match-high 17 digs.
NJIT’s Weronika Wiezik posted eight kills and seven digs, setter Anna Rodrigues had 21 assists and eight digs and libero Adriana Nieto recorded 12 digs to lead the Highlanders.
The Gaels return to MAAC action this weekend at the Hynes Center when they host Marist (Oct. 1) and Siena (Oct. 2). Both matches are slated for 1:00 pm.
