PELHAM, NY — The Picture House Regional Film Center (TPH) announced today that Alex Wolff, star of the new movie Coming Through the Rye (PG-13, 1 hr. 37 mins.) will be on-hand after the advance screening of the film on Thursday, October 13th at 7:30 p.m. for a discussion and Q&A with the Emmy Award winning filmmaker James Sadwith. Marshall Fine TPH’s critic-in residence will moderate the discussion. The movie opens nationwide on Friday, October 14th.
Coming Through the Rye, set in 1969, is a touching coming of age story of sensitive, 16 year old Jamie Schwartz (Alex Wolff, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, Patriots Day), who is not the most popular kid at his all-boys boarding school. Disconnected from students and teachers, he believes he is destined to play Holden Caulfield, the main character of The Catcher in the Rye and has adapted the book as a play. After a series of increasingly hostile altercations with the boys at school, Jamie runs away to search for J.D. Salinger (Chris Cooper, Adaptation, August: Osage County, American Beauty). On his way he picks up Deedee Gorlin (Stefania LaVie Owen, The Lovely Bones), a quirky townie. Their odyssey to find Salinger becomes a journey of sexual awakening, the discovery of love, and of the meaning of one’s life.
After the film TPH’s critic-in-residence Marshall Fine will lead a discussion and Q&A with the filmmaker James Sadwith and star of the film Alex Wolff. Sadwith’s TV movies, miniseries, and drama series have won or been nominated for over thirty-five Emmy Awards and Golden Globes. He has been twice nominated for Emmys and won the Emmy for Best Direction with the miniseries Sinatra. In addition, Sadwith has twice been a DGA Award finalist and once a finalist for the Humanitas Award.
Wolff, 18 is an award-winning actor, musician, singer, and composer. He is best known for roles in the TV series The Naked Brothers Band and movies such as The Sitter and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2. Wolff is starring with Mark Wahlberg in the forthcoming new Lionsgate film Patriots Day based on the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. He is the son of actress Polly Draper and jazz pianist Michael Wolff and is older brother is Paper Towns star Nat Wolff.
