NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle Mens Soccer team won its 5th straight contest Monday afternoon in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against the Culinary Institute. The Blue Angels managed to come home with a 2-0 victory over the Steels to remain unbeaten in league play (5-0) while CIA falls to 3-4.
Freshmen Jovanni Garcia (Garden Grove, CA) tallied the first goal of the contest late in the first half off a pass from freshmen Oscar Guido (Kendall, FL).. For the forward, it was his 20th goal of the season and he now has scored in 12 of 13 contests for CNR. Freshmen Daniel De Los Rios (Wellington, FL) provided a second half cushion with his first collegiate goal, blasting home a loose ball inside the box.
CNR controlled the contest from start to finish, but was unable to finish many chances throughout the game. They outshot CIA 18-10, of which 14 were on goal – keeping CIA keeper Nathan Gutcher busy all game. CNR Keeper Cristian Perez Del Castillo (Harrison, NY) recorded his third straight shutout making five stops.
CNR will return to the friendly turf of City Field when they welcome HVIAC member Davis College on Wednesday at 5pm.
