NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle Mens Soccer team extended its shutout streak to 410 minutes, as they easily defeated Davis College by a 9-0 margin in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Wednesday afternoon at City Field. CNR improves to 6-0 in the league (12-2 overall), while Davis drops to 1-6 in conference and 2-11 overall.
The Blue Angels had eight different players reach the score column, as freshmen center back Ty Lenk (Black Mountain, NC), midfielder Jose Martinez (Toano, VA), and center back Marco Abrego (West Palm Beach, FL) all tallied their first collegiate goals. Lenk’s goal was unassisted, while freshmen Angel Gonzalez (Fort Lauderdale, FL) served up a cross that Martinez headed home. The highlight of the night came when freshmen Oscar Guido (Kendall, FL) set up Abrego outside the box. Abrego’s rip from 25 yards out made a beeline for the upper right corner.
Guido and freshmen Jovanni Garcia (Garden Grove, CA) each had two assists, while freshmen Cesar Rodriguez (Santa Ana, CA) led the way with two goals in the 5th and 70th minutes – the latter a rifle from the corner of the 18 into the side netting. Garcia recorded his team leading 21st goal in the 55th minute, with an unassisted effort.
CNR led 25-1 in shots on goal and 11-0 in corners.
CNR will be back in action on Saturday when they host Webb at noon. The game is part of Family Weekend activities at CNR. A free shuttle will be provided from the Wellness Center to the game. It will depart at 11:30.
