NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College Men’s Cross Country team placed fifth at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Friday morning in Madison, Wisconsin. The Gaels finished behind Northern Arizona, Stanford, BYU and Syracuse.
Senior Kieran Clements performed best for the Gaels, placing seventh with a time of 24:01.3. Junior Gilbert Kirui finished 12th (24:05.7), while junior Johannes Motschmann finished in 47th (24:34.1). Junior Liam Dee (24:46.9), senior Andrew Tario (25:06.0) and senior Brandon Allen (25:13.8) rounded out the Iona scorers.
Northern Arizona won the event, totalying 78 points. Stanford followed with 118, while BYU totaled 144, and Syracuse accumulated 167. The Maroon and Gold placed fifth with 240, while UCLA (246), Portland (257), Iowa State (260), Washington State (283) and Colorado State (298) rounded out the top-10 resectively.
Justyn Knight of Syracuse finished the event in first in 23:53.1, two seconds ahead of the next competitor.
The Gaels are back on the field tomorrow, as they compete in the Princeton Invitational, slated to begin at 10:30 AM.
