NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College volleyball program earnt its second MAAC win of the season Saturday afternoon, coming from behind to defeat Saint Peter’s in four sets. The Peacocks took the first set 25-22, but the Gaels rally to win three straight (25-14, 25-12, 25-20) in dominant fashion.
Freshman Tess Connolly had a team-high 14 points with 13 kills and two block assists. She hit .300 and contributed six digs. Senior Karly White ended the match with 10 kills, one solo block, and 13.5 total points. Sophomore Mia Bonsignore’s .400 attack percentage was the third highest of the season for an Iona player. She finished with 13 kills on 25 attempts.
As a team, the Gaels hits .234, their best percentage since Sept. 27 at the Hynes Center against NJIT. Iona had a season-high 56 assists on 58 kills. It is the second consecutive game, and third time this year, that the Gaels recorded 50+ kills.
Sophomore Emma Rose had a team-high 32 assists, and sophomore Kait Ferretti added on with 26 helpers of her own. Second-year players Amanda Gannon and Jessica Paolucci each had a match-high 12 digs.
The Maroon & Gold continue its MAAC schedule tomorrow against Rider University.
