NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College Women’s Soccer team notched its fourth-straight victory on Saturday with a 5-0 blanking of Howard Community College. The shutout was also the fifth in a row for the Mustangs defense.
Monroe got on the board in the sixth minute when new offensive juggernaut Elysa Virella scored off a pass from Gabrielle Pereira. Despite several scoring chances for the Mustangs, the lead remained at 1-0 into halftime.
In the 51st minute, Virella returned the favor to Pereira, setting her up for the score. Five minutes later, Virella earned her second marker of the game off another assist from Pereira. Monroe led 3-0 after an hour. Pereira scored the final two goals off a helper from Gemma Pla and another from Virella. Monroe won 5-0. In the game, Pereira and Virella combined on four of the five markers.
The Monroe College Women’s Soccer team is now 7-0-2 on the season. The squad will return to action on Sunday, October 16th, against Spartanburg Methodist College at 2:00 PM in Louisburg, North Carolina.
