NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College Men’s Basketball team improved to 5-0 on the year with three wins at the Legends Classic tournament in Baltimore. The Mustangs defeated Northern Virginia Community College (77-54), Monroe Community College (84-81), and Clinton College (88-69).
The Mustangs had five players reach double figures in scoring against Northern Virginia. Clifton Tracey led the team with 18 points, Dani Koljanin chipped in with 15, and Jarron Chapman, Jeremy Betjol, and Felix Carlsson all finished with 10. The Mustangs took control early in the game and never looked back. The final basket, a layup from Alejandro Montas, gave the Mustangs their largest lead of the game at 23 points. Monroe won, 77-54.
The Mustangs needed two overtimes to beat the Tribunes in the second game of the weekend, 84-81. Carlsson was once again the offensive leader with 14 points, while Tyler Ancrum had 13 and Bryan Assie netted 10. Koljanin earned a double-double with 13 points and a dozen rebounds. A Hampus Ahlin jumper inside of a minute forced overtime, and a couple of Ancrum free throws helped seal the game.
Monroe closed out the weekend with an 88-69 win over Clinton College. Carlsson and Tracey each netted 20 points, while Chapman had 17.
The Monroe College Men’s Basketball team will return to action on Tuesday, November 22nd, hosting ASA College at 6:00 PM.
