NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle Men’s Basketball team improved to 5-4 on the season and 2-0 in league play with a dominating 101-32 drubbing of the Culinary Institute of America, in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Sunday. The Steels fall to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in league play. The win sets up a key HVIAC match against top-ranked Berkeley College at CNR on Wednesday night.
Freshmen Matthew Dean (Marlboro, NJ) had his second straight 20+ point performance, dropping in a game-high 25. Freshmen Hunter Schenkel (Sayville, NY) added 21 more for the Blue Angels, who had a strong team effort, as all but two of 15 players scored. George Musho had 10 to lead the Steels.
CNR forced 28 turnovers, fueled by Dean and freshmen Matthew Newkirk (Littleton, CO) each grabbing three steals. CNR was rebounded by CIA by a narrow 44-42 margin. Thirteen different players for CNR had at least one board with Dean leading the pack with eight.
CNR, who held a 54-17 halftime lead, shot almost 50% for the game (48,6) and held CIA to just 23%.
