NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College Women’s basketball team improved to 8-4 for the season with a 92-46 victory over Orange County College on Thursday. Three Mustangs each scored more than 20 points: Shania Johnson (25), Jada Banks (21), and Camilla Kilinc (20). Cristina Soriano added 10 points.
Johnson shot 9-of-13 from the field. Kilinc made 6-of-7 three-points, while Aneisha Lyons grabbed a game-best seven steals.
Monroe led 27-9 after one quarter and 47-17 at the half. The third quarter was competitive, as the Mustangs outscored the Colts 23-20 in that ten-minute stretch. The largest lead of the game, 48 points, came on a Jessica DeGree layup with less than half a minute remaining.
As a team, the Mustangs shot 56.3% from the field and an impressive 59.3% (16-27), from beyond the three-point line. Johnson rebounded to reach double figures after failing to do so in her previous game. Monroe scored 45 points off of Colts turnovers.
The Monroe College Women’s basketball team will go for win number nine on Sunday, December 11, when they host Erie CC at noon. With eight wins so far this season, the team is just two short of last year’s total.
