NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Monroe College sophomores Shania Johnson and Camilla Kilinc combined to score 56 points in the Women’s Basketball team’s 83-53 victory over Erie Community College on Sunday. Johnson earned 34 points with 8-11 shooting from behind the three-point line. Kilinc totaled 22 points with 8-16 shooting.
The Mustangs came out strong and led 32-6 after the first quarter. Monroe took an 11-0 lead to open the game, getting the first nine points from Kilinc and another basket from Johnson. The lead grew as large as 29 points in the second quarter, when an Aneisha Lyons layup at the 7:23 mark made the score 39-10. They led at halftime, 48-23.
Monroe’s largest lead of the game, 31 points, came with 6:32 left in the third quarter courtesy of a Jessica DeGree jumper. The Mustangs led by 20 after three quarters and pushed the lead to 30 in the final ten minutes of play to secure the 83-53 win.
In the game, Johnson made eight three-pointers, while Kilinc made five. Mercy Amechi was a perfect 6-6 shooting and had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Lyons pulled down ten rebounds in the win.
The Monroe College Women’s Basketball team improved to 9-4 on the year with the victory. They will return to action on Saturday, December 17th, in the Montgomery College-Rockville tournament in Maryland.
