NEW ROCHELLE, NY — In a second half that featured six lead changes and seven tied up moments, The College of New Rochelle Men’s Basketball team came out victorious with a 79-71 road win over John Jay College in non-conference action Wednesday night.
Freshmen Hunter Schenkel (Sayville, NY) was key for the Blue Angels down the stetch. With CNR holding on to a 4-point lead with 1:09 to play, Schenkel converted an old-fashion three-point play to give New Rochelle a seven point margin. John Jay twice cut it back to four points, but each time Schenkel or junior Jack Tisdale (Dayton, OH) connected on their foul shots to secure the win.
Up by two at the half, John Jay built up a 10 point lead with 14:40 to play. But, they would squander that lead at the 5:00 mark when CNR took a 62-61 lead on a free throw by freshmen Glen O’Loughlin (Yorktown Heights, NY).
Schenkel finsihed with a game-high 28 and Tisdale contributed 26 points, 10 boards and a team-best three helpers.. Essien Epps led the Bloodhounds with 24 points.
CNR shot 33% from behind the arc and 70% from the line, while holding John Jay to way below their season average from behind the arc, at just 9%.
New Rochelle will travel to Valley Forge for a non-conference battle of AD3I members on Saturday.
