Dee Registers Sub Four Minute Mile to Highlight Weekend for Iona ITF

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A sub-four-minute mile from Liam Dee highlighted two meets this weekend for the Iona College track and field program.

Dee took part in the mile event at the Boston University Last Chance Meet on Sunday and during the fourth heat of the event, the junior recorded a time of 3:58.19 to earn sixth place. The time is the fastest in the MAAC this season by eight seconds and also gives the England native the second best time in Iona Indoor history.

Kieran Clements also raced in the mile, posting a time of 4:09.43 for 21st, two seconds off his season-best.

In the 3,000 meter, Johannes Motschmann earned the victory with a personal-best time of 8:07.75. His time is second in the conference, trailing only Dee for the season’s best.

On Saturday, other members of the Maroon & Gold traveled to Staten Island for the Fastrack Last Chance Meet. A pair of freshman earned the top two spots in the 1,000 meter as Edward Hayfron led the duo with a time of 2:28.87 for the second best time in the conference. Danny Galvin finished just over a second behind at 2:29.91. Brian Warsh added seventh place in the event behind a clocking of 2:35.33.

The men’s side of the meet also witnessed two more seventh place finishes for the Gaels. Robert Kirsty recorded a time of 1:55.79 in the 800 meter while Thomas McClellan crossed in at 15:22.13 during the 5,000 meter.

For the women’s team, Natalie Holder led three individual finishes with a fourth place showing in the mile behind a time of 5:06.43, less than a second short of her personal best. Danika Jensen added a fifth place time of 2:59.35 in the 1,000 meter while Kara McKenna crossed the 3,000 meter finish in 10:37.07.

Next on the schedule for the Gaels is a return trip to Boston next weekend for the IC4A Championships.
