Dee Earns First Team All-America Nod with Seventh Place Finish at NCAA Indoor Championships

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — After earning eighth place during the preliminary race on Friday evening, Liam Dee improved upon his standings among the nation’s best by finishing seventh in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships mile finals. With the finish, the junior garners First Team All-America honors.

Closing out his final 800 meter of today’s race in 1:55.77, Dee posted a mile time of 4:07.82 to earn the seventh place finish. The England native finished in 4:00.72 on Friday to earn one of the 10 spots in the final race.

Freshman Josh Kerr of New Mexico ran a 4:03.22 to edge out senior Edward Cheserek of Oregon (4:05.42) for the Individual National Championship. Dee pushed just in front of Ben Saarel from Colorado for seventh place as the senior clocked in at 4:07.84.

Dee became the first Gael to compete in the NCAA Indoor Mile race since 2014 when Matthew Gillespie competed in the preliminary race at the Albuquerque Convention.

A re-air of the championship will take place on Sunday, March 12 starting at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
