NEW ROCHELLE, NY — In advance of the winter storm predicted to bring blizzard conditions, heavy snow and high winds, the City has declared a SNOW EMERGENCY effective midnight Monday.
During a snow emergency, there is no parking on designated streets but City Manager Chuck Strome is urging all residents to move cars off the road today in advance of the storm. “Having fewer vehicles on the street will facilitate plowing operations,” Strome noted. To assist with options, the City is offering free parking at meter spaces in the New Roc and Transit Center garages beginning Monday at 5 PM until further notice.
As the storm will bring dangerous travel conditions, including slippery roads and whiteout conditions, Strome said, “All unnecessary travel should be avoided.” Public Works crews will be at work around the clock as conditions permit clearing the roads.
The following schedules have been changed:
1) City Council Meetings: The Committee of the Whole meeting scheduled for March 14 has been rescheduled to March 21; and the Regular Legislative meeting is now March 28.
2) Garbage and Recycling Pickup:
a. Tuesday’s South End garbage pickup is cancelled. The next scheduled pickup will be on Friday March 17.
b. Wednesday’s citywide paper recycling has been postponed until Thursday, March 16. As a result, Thursday’s North End garbage pickup has been cancelled.
3) All City offices will be closed Tues. March 14.
Blustery winds are expected Thursday night. If you experience a power outage, call Con Edison directly at 1-800-75- CON ED (1-800-752-6633). Report downed trees to the Police Department at (914) 654-2300.
When shoveling out, don’t throw snow back into roadways. And, assist the Fire Department by clearing fire hydrants near your property.
