NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Interreligious Council of New Rochelle, New York, as an organization of religious congregations committed to communication, understanding, trust, and cooperation among people of all faiths, deplores the wave of telephoned threats made against Jewish Community Centers (JCCs) across the United States, and especially the Mid-Westchester JCC in New Rochelle. Jewish Community Centers have a long-standing tradition of serving both Jews and non-Jews alike as places where they can enjoy social, cultural, and athletic activities. No one must be allowed to disrupt, much less destroy, these models of interfaith harmony.
We call upon law enforcement agencies at local, state, and federal levels to find and prosecute the perpetrators of these and all cowardly acts of domestic terrorism. We urge our members, and people of all traditions, to stand in solidarity with the Jewish community and refuse to be intimidated by these dastardly threats.
