Monroe College Baseball Defeats Rowan at Gloucester, 7-2

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College Baseball team picked up its fourth win of the season on Tuesday with a 7-2 victory over Rowan College at Gloucester County. Xavier Bilodeau earned the victory and improved to 2-0 on the season.

Monroe took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the second inning. Troy Davern led off with a double to left. He came in on an RBI single from Isaiah Torres. Shadrach Meulens doubled home Torres to make the score 2-0, and Marcus Espinal hit a two-bagger to right that plated Meulens. The Roadrunners scored a couple of runs in the second and third inning to get within 3-2.

Monroe earned another run in the fifth inning. Andy Karlan reached on a two-out error. After a Michael Crispino walk, Karlan came in on an RBI base hit from Davern. The Mustangs led, 4-2.

They put the game away with three runs in the sixth. Torres singled and reached second on a wild pitch. Meulens was hit by a pitch, and Espinal reached on a fielder’s choice that loaded the bases. Torres and Meulens scored on an RBI single from Carlos Torres, and the score was 6-2. Wayne Roberts followed with a sacrifice fly that brought in Espinal. Monroe won, 7-2.

Bilodeau pitched 6.2 innings and allowed just one earned run. He walked two and struck out six. Manuel Pizarro tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, in which he only surrendered one hit.

The Monroe College Baseball team is now 4-9 on the year. They will return to action on Saturday, March 25th, hosting Dutchess Community College in a doubleheader that will start at noon.
