About Pysanky and Artist Laryssa Czebiniak
Pysanky (decorated Easter eggs) are a Ukrainian folk art and a traditional part of spring and Easter celebrations. Eggs are covered in intricate folk motifs and designs using a written-wax batik method. Using a special stylus, molten beeswax is drawn onto the egg in designs, and then the egg is dipped into dyes, leaving the areas covered in wax preserved and white, creating a relief design on the egg. Pysanky are symbols of rebirth associated with spring and the Christian celebration of Easter.
Artist Laryssa Czebiniak remembers making her very first pysanka at age five. She has led (Ukrainian Easter egg) parties, demos & workshops in the NYC area since 2007.
