WHITE PLAINS, NY — The Junior League of Central Westchester (JLCW) proudly announces its 70th anniversary celebration Big Night Out: 70 BIG Years, which will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Sunningdale Country Club in Scarsdale, NY. The evening’s festivities will include a cocktail hour, dinner, music, dancing and an extensive silent auction. Big Night Out will honor Susan Fox, President & CEO of White Plains Hospital, and Janice Starr, past JLCW President and community leader.
Big Night Out is open to the public and will be attended by JLCW members and other prominent members of the community. The JLCW is proud to celebrate 70 BIG years of improving the lives of children and families throughout Central Westchester County. As one of the JLCW’s primary fundraisers, Big Night Out will provide essential financial support for the JLCW’s educational and charitable projects. Funds raised at this event enable the JLCW to support programs that promote health, literacy and good nutrition to Head Start children, provide thousands of diapers each month to needy families, ensure that low-income mothers have basic necessities for their newborns and teach leadership skills to teens at risk.
Susan Fox will be recognized for her contributions to the Westchester community and because of the example that she sets as a woman leading a major nonprofit in Central Westchester. Susan’s appointment as one of the first women to lead an acute care hospital speaks to the JLCW’s mission of developing the potential of women. A longtime Westchester resident, Susan has a remarkable career, which includes early roots as a pediatric intensive care nurse followed by more than 25 years of health management administration. Susan’s efforts to extend access to healthcare into the community resonate with the League’s focus on improving the lives of neighbors in need. Tom Roach, the mayor of White Plains, will present Susan’s honor.
Janice Starr, JLCW President 1998-1999 and prominent Scarsdale citizen, will be recognized for her dedication to realizing the mission of the JLCW and for her leadership in the community. New York State Assemblywoman Amy Paulin will present Janice’s honor. Janice’s current roles include Co-President of the Fox Meadow Neighborhood Association, First Vice President of the League of Women Voters, an Executive Board Member of Steve’s Camp at Horizon Farms and a Board Member of Scarsdale-Edgemont Family Counseling Service.
The JLCW is grateful to all of its 2017 sponsors including, GEICO Local Office, White Plains Hospital, Platinum Drive Realty, Advocate Brokerage Corp., Houlihan Lawrence, TD Bank, William Raveis, Julia B. Fee Sotheby’s, Clean Design, Coldwell Banker and Neiman Marcus.
“The JLCW’s 70th anniversary year has been a celebration of community,” said Meridith Alin, President of the Junior League of Central Westchester. “White Plains Hospital President & CEO Susan Fox and past JLCW President Janice Starr exemplify the impact that women can make in their communities.”
