NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Children of all ages have the opportunity to be enriched, engaged and entertained while attending free programs at the New Rochelle Public Library during the April vacation week. All programs at the main library are made possible by the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library and the program at the Huguenot Children’s Library is made possible by the Partnership for the Huguenot Children’s Library.
On Monday, April 10, from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, a “Balloon Bonanza Workshop” will take place in the meeting room of the main library, Main Library. Children in Grades K – 5 will learn how to shape fanciful creations out of balloons. Seating is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 9:45 am.
Educators from the Westchester Children’s Museum will conduct a “Wright Stuff Workshop” on Tuesday, April 11, from 11:00 am – 12:00 noon, in the meeting room of the main library. The Wright Brothers are perfect examples of true inventors and their work offers important concepts about what makes things fly! The fun begins when participants in Grades K – 5 use odd and interesting materials to create a flying object and experiment with the Museum’s fantastic wind tunnel. Seating is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 10:45 am.
Later in the afternoon of Tuesday, April 11, from 2:00 pm – 3:45 pm, the film Moana will be shown in the main library’s Ossie Davis Theater. Moana is the sweeping, animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who is inspired to leave the safety and security of her island on a daring journey to save her people. Inexplicably drawn to the ocean, Moana convinces the mighty demigod Maui to join her mission, and he reluctantly helps her become a wayfinder like her ancestors who sailed before her. Together, they voyage across the open ocean on an action-packed adventure, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, along the way.
On Wednesday, April 12, from 2:00 pm – 2:45 pm, a live performance by Silent Vaudevillian Chip Bryant will take place in the Ossie Davis Theater. Humor, magic, jokes, and silly antics—all performed without a word— make this show one of our all-time favorites! The talented Chip Bryant has a wonderfully warm, kind way of connecting with every child and adult, of every age, and ensuring that everyone has a fabulous time. Seating is on a first come/first-served to the capacity of the theater.
A “Bugs, Bugs, Bugs! Workshop” for preschoolers will be held at the Huguenot Children’s Library on Thursday, April 13, 11:00 am – 12:00 noon. The caterpillar, butterfly and other backyard critters are explored in this hands-on program led by instructors from the Westchester Children’s Museum. Classic stories provide the invitation into close observation and exploration into the lives and life cycles of many familiar insects. The workshop is limited to 25 children ages 3 – 5 and requires registration, by calling (914) 632-8954.
On Thursday afternoon, from 2:00 pm – 3:35 pm, the film A Bugs Life will be shown in the Ossie Davis Theater of the main library. All ages are invited to embark on an incredible journey with one little ant as he searches for a brave band of warriors to help him battle the bullying grasshoppers who threaten his home. When he stumbles on a bumbling troupe of circus bugs instead, their only hope for victory is the bond of friendship and the awesome power of imagination.
