NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Dozens of pink plastic flamingos mysteriously planted themselves on a front lawn on Highbrook Blvd. in Pelham.  The following day they were sighted on Esplanade….Facebook began buzzing. A rosy line of flamingos greeted commuters one morning near the train station.  Since then, the pink flock has roosted on lawns across Pelham.  What is going on?

Party-ers, ready yourselves.  The mysterious flock sightings are announcing Pelham Art Center’s “Flock Party,” its annual spring fundraiser, Saturday, May 13th, 7:30PM at the Pelham Art Center. “Galas are for the birds,” said Brian Bober, PAC Board member and rumored Flock Organizer. “We’re going pink, we’re going tacky, and we’re going fun.” Guests will have a pink flamingo delivered personally to their home (within Pelham).  Guests outside Pelham may pick up their flamingos any time at the Art Center, or upon arrival at the Flock Party.  Party-goers are invited to decorate their own flamingos and bring them – prizes will be awarded.

So what the pink is a Flock Party?  The “anti-gala” will be a casual, ridiculously fun evening, with light fare, pink (and other color) drinks, a DJ, unusual auction experiences and items – including artist-decorated flamingos.  And because it’s Pelham Art Center, there will be exciting serious art auctioned off as well – advantageously priced.

“Supporters of nonprofits are dishing out a lot of money for gala tickets,” said Lynn Honeysett, Executive Director of the Art Center, “and most of it doesn’t go to the nonprofit – it goes to the venue.  We’d like our supporters to enjoy a great party for a less expensive ticket price, and to know that the majority of that money goes directly to the free arts programs and scholarships they want to support.”

The event is partially funded by Spring Presenting Sponsor McClellan Sotheby’s International Realty and Spring Platinum Sponsor Meridian Risk Management/Joan Solimine Real Estate, Pelham’s caring community businesses.  Proceeds from the event fund Pelham Art Center’s free, open-to-the-public arts programs, exhibitions, scholarships and afterschool programs in underserved communities.
