NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College golf team moved up two spots on the final day of the Rhode Island Invitational, placing 11th among 14 competing schools. The Gaels shot 304 (+16) in round three, led by sophomore Devin Delisle’s 75 (+3). They finished the three-round tournament with a scorecard of 929 (+65).
The host Rhode Island won the event at 876 (+12), and Bryant University student-athlete Ryan Tombs took the individual crown with a three-round total of 215 (-1).
Delisle finished tied for 20th at 225 (+9). Sophomore Paolo Matti shot a third round 76 (+4) to climb to T48th on the individual leaderboard. Senior Brian Fitzpatrick finished T61st with an 82 (+10) in the third round. Rookies Oisin Devereux and Matt Mirocco bounced back from two 80+ rounds with a 75 (+3) and 78 (+5), respectively, in their final go-arounds.
Matti tied for third among all competitors shooting even on the par three holes. Delisle shot -5 on the par five holes, due in large part to recording one of nine eagles over the two-day event. Mirocco ranked among the leaders with 32 pars over three rounds.
Iona wraps up its season at the MAAC Championship at Disney’s Magnolia Course in Lake Buena Vista, FL beginning on Friday, Apr. 21.
