NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle softball team continued its hot start to the 2017 season with a pair of wins over John Jay College Monday night at Flowers Park. With the 13-4 and 10-0 wins, the Blue Angels have now won four in a row and seven of their last eight games. The four straight wins is a new program record, as the team now stands at 8-2.
Sophomore Victoria Rivera (Bronx, NY) is still unbeaten on the mound, as she won the first game and is now 6-0 on the season. Freshmen Emily Perez (Queens, NY) won her 2nd game of the year and first career shutout, as CNR won game two 10-0 in five innings. Perez took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, before surrendering a single.
Game 1
CNR pounded out 13 hits, led by freshmen Victoria Holmes (Franklin, VA) who finished with a 3-for-4 performance, driving in two and scoring three. Rivera had a base-clearing 3-RBI double. Freshmen Alexandra Czarkosky (Chesire, CT) drove in an insurance run with two outs, after CNR went up by eight in the bottom of the fourth.
Game 2
Freshmen Samantha Gutierrez (Fullerton, CA) and Junior Kevona Jackson (Yonkers, NY) both went yard for CNR in the third and fourth innings, consecutively, to open up a 2-0 lead.
