NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College Baseball team’s bats certainly did the job in a 14-7 loss at Sullivan County Community College on Wednesday. The team slugged 12 hits and three homers, but saw their three-game winning streak come to a close in the setback.
The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles from Troy Davern, who went 2-4 in the game, and Marcus Espinal, who posted career-highs in hits (four) and RBIs (three). The Generals scored three times in the bottom of the inning and led, 3-2.
Sullivan scored three runs in both the second and third innings to lead 9-2. Monroe got a run back in the fourth when an Andy Karlan sacrifice fly scored Espinal, who singled and got to third on an Adonis Garcia double. Garcia collected three hits in the game.
The Generals scored twice in the fifth, and Monroe responded with three runs in the sixth. Down 11-3, Shadrach Meulens led off with a solo home run. After Davern walked, Espinal blasted the second homer of the inning over the wall in center, bringing the score to 11-6. Michael Crispino hit a solo shot in the seventh, but Sullivan went on to win, 14-7.
Ramon Disla got the start and was charged with the loss. The team is now 18-20 overall, and will face Harford Community College in a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 2:00 PM.
