NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Public Library’s Summer Reading Kick-off Party, designed to raise the level of children’s enthusiasm for a summer of reading pleasure, will be held on Saturday, June 24th, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. “Build a Better World” is the theme for the 2017 Summer Reading Game, and the library has cooked-up a terrific array of 6-week programs to help children stay energized with related activities. The kick-off event will include a sampler of the activities, such as a hands-on building workshop with ArchForKids and live entertainment by the National Circus Project.
In the library’s lobby, parents will have an opportunity to register their children in pre-K through Grade 5 for the summer reading incentive game. Each child registering will receive materials to keep track of the books they read so that they can win prizes throughout the summer and receive an invitation to the End of Summer Reading Party. The Summer Reading Kick-off Party is sponsored by the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library and the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District (BID).
From July 3rd – August 15th, a full slate of free summer programs for preschool and elementary school students will be offered at the main library and the Huguenot Children’s Library, including 6-week workshops in architecture, cooking, crafts, yoga, writing and more, as well as programs in the Ossie Davis Theater such as live shows, science and animal presentations, international music and dance performances, and family films.
