Kids’ Imaginations Take Off at Pelham Art Center!

PELHAM, NY — Remember how imaginative you were as a kid? Imagination often takes a backseat to academics during school. Summer restores the time necessary to let creativity to run wild, and there’s no better place to nurture it than Pelham Art Center’s summer camps and classes.

Children ages 3-7 can make, construct and create to their hearts’ content in weeklong art “camps” and classes where they will explore new mediums and create projects. Each week is an exciting new theme, combining art with movement or theater. No two weeks are the same – with themes like LEGO! (July 10-14); Bugs and Creepy Crawlies (July 17-21) Dinosaurs! (July 24-28); Fairytales and Superheroes (July 31-Aug. 4); Exploring Space (August 7-11); Under the Sea (Aug. 14-18); TADA! Youth Theater (Aug 21-25); and Travel the World (Aug. 28 – Sept. 1).

For older kids, ages 8-13, there are studio and digital art classes such as Mosaics, Clay, Nature Art, Collage, Make Your Own Horror Movie, and much more! For three hours each day, students will immerse themselves in the art form of their choice, let their imaginations roam, and end the week with loads of beautiful artwork.

For youth and adults, there is a satisfying variety of once-a-week summer semester classes. Bring your tots every Friday to Mommy and Me (ages 1-3). Saturdays are creative explorations in Painting, Drawing and Mixed Media (ages 6-10 and 10-15), and teens will learn about influential female artists and make work inspired by them in Women in Art: Female Masters (ages 12-15). Teens can also take any adult class, and this summer we’re offering a tempting line-up, including Life Drawing, Graphic Design for Artists, Digital Photography, Experimenting with Oils, and more! These are just a few of the many creative options available for all ages. Registration is open now. For information and registration go to www.pelhamartcenter.org/education, or call 738 2525 x111. Stop by anytime for a catalog at 155 Fifth Ave.

And remember, while your kids are having fun, they are also improving social and motor skills, personal expression, visual communication and application for digital skills. Statistics show that children involved in the arts improve academically. PAC instructors are great teachers, as well as professional artists in their associated mediums – so inspiring children, youth and adults alike comes naturally.

Need-based scholarships are available to all students who qualify.
