NEW ROCHELLE, NY — William Miller, who oversaw transportation in the Connetquot Central School District in Bohemia, NY for a decade, has been named Director of Transportation for the New Rochelle schools. He was appointed to the post on June 6 by the New Rochelle Board of Education.
In the newly created position, Miller is responsible for seeing that students safely reach the district’s 10 public school buildings as well as 61 private and parochial schools and special education sites every day. More than 3,300 elementary students ride yellow buses and vans in the district. In the middle and high schools, 4,000 students are eligible for district passes to ride public Westchester County Bee-Line buses to school.
“To run any district properly, you have to get students to school safely and on time,” Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne said. “William Miller has the experience to make sure the city’s children and teenagers are able to get to their classrooms each day before the school bell rings.”
Miller took over direction of transportation in the Connetquot schools on Long Island in 2007. For more than 10 years before that, he was a bus company terminal manager.
“I am thrilled to be joining the City of New Rochelle Schools family,” Miller said. “I am looking forward to bringing my twenty-plus years of school transportation experience to serve the students and community of New Rochelle.”
