NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Xiomara Gonzalez, an accomplished administrator with years of experience in teaching and managing math and science programs, has been named New Rochelle High School Math Department Chairperson. She was appointed to the position on June 6 by the New Rochelle Board of Education.
“It is an honor to join the Mathematics Department at the high school and to serve New Rochelle’s public school students and their families,” Gonzalez said. “I truly look forward to helping this department build on the progress it has made in ensuring high quality math education and exceptional outcomes for all students. Students who experience an engaging math curriculum are able to appreciate the role of mathematics in their cultural backgrounds and community practices.
Gonazalez is assistant principal at the Morris Academy for Collaborative Studies in the Bronx. She previously served as a math teacher, Finance Academy Coordinator and student advisor at the Bronx School of Law and Finance.
She will begin in New Rochelle on July 1, replacing Ronald Morris, who is retiring after 15 years in the district. In addition to overseeing curriculum and evaluating math teachers, her responsibilities will include looking for ways to broaden access to Advanced Placement tests for underrepresented groups.
“Ms. Gonzalez has a wealth of experience and the right attitude to chair the New Rochelle High School Math Department,” said Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne. “I am confident that under her leadership, the department will continue to provide excellence in the teaching of mathematics to all of our students.”
