NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The library’s series of Oscar-winning family films will continue on Monday, July 31st, at 6:00 pm, with the showing of Hugo. The 2011 film was based on the Caldecott Medal-winning historical fiction picture book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, by Brian Selznick and is about a wily and resourceful young boy named Hugo, who lives alone in the Gare Montparnasse railway station in Paris in the 1930s. When he discovers a secret left by his father, he unlocks a mystery and embarks on a quest that will transform those around him and lead to a safe and loving place he can call home.
Directed by Martin Scorsese, Hugo received 11 Academy Award nominations (including Best Picture), and won five awards: Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects. Rated PG, the film runs 126 minutes.
The library’s family film series will conclude on Monday, August 7th with the showing of Lili. The 1953 Oscar-winning film, stars Leslie Caron as an orphan who joins a carnival and falls under the spell of its star, a suave magician – but it’s the show’s physically challenged, embittered puppeteer who truly loves Lili, a love he can express only through his puppets.
