NEW YORK, NY — New York State Police Superintendent George P. Beach II has appointed Major Robert C. Gregory as the 34th Troop Commander of Troop K.
Major Gregory began his career with the State Police when he entered the New York State Police Academy on October 1, 1990. Major Gregory served in Troop K upon his graduation from the basic school and transferred to Troop T six years later. In 1998, he returned to Troop K as a Uniform Trooper until he received the permanent rank of Sergeant in February of 2000, and remained in Troop K.
After working as a Sergeant for two years, Major Gregory’s supervisors recognized his hard work and leadership skills, and in January of 2002, he was promoted to Station Commander of the Brewster Barracks.
In August of 2004, Major Gregory was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to Troop L. One month later, he transferred to Troop NYC and served as a Lieutenant in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation assigned to the Drug Enforcement Task Force.
In August of 2007, Major Gregory was appointed to the rank of Captain in the Special Investigations Unit, assigned to the Joint Terrorism Task Force, where he remained until 2012. In February of 2012, he returned to Troop K as the Zone 2 Commander serving Dutchess and Putnam counties. In April of 2013, Major Gregory transferred back to the Special Investigations Unit, where his duties included overseeing a Detail of Division Members assigned to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, and later the Moreland Commission to Investigate Public Corruption. In December of 2015, he was promoted to Major in charge of the New York State Intelligence Center, and subsequently designated the Detail Commander of the Special Investigations Unit.
Major Gregory received a Bachelor’s Degree from Fordham University, and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from SUNY Albany. A Brooklyn native, he resides in the Hudson Valley with his wife and four children.
Major Gregory’s appointment to Troop K Commander is effective July 13, 2017. He replaces Major Robert M. Nuzzo who will go on to serve the Division of State Police as Assistant Deputy Superintendent, Chief of Staff, at Division Headquarters.
