WHITE PLAINS, NY — Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino announced that the rich culture and traditions of India will be on display at the Heritage of India Festival, Sunday, August 6, 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla.
“This is our annual opportunity to visit faraway India without ever leaving Westchester,” Astorino said. “Come out to Kensico and enjoy the exotic sights, sounds, colors and cuisines of India and discover the many contributions the people of India have made to our culturally diverse county.”
The festival will showcase delicious foods, live music, folk dancing and cultural performances. Festival-goers can create their own cultural fashion by decorating themselves with Mehndi, the henna bridal make-up that dates back to ancient India.
Visitors can also browse a merchandise bazaar where a variety of vendors will be selling Indian clothing, jewelry, CDs, DVDs and delicious Indian cuisine. Traditional Rangoli art and other craft exhibitions will be on display as well.
Admission and parking are free. The event will be held rain or shine. Bring blankets or chairs for informal seating on the lawn or under the tent.
The Heritage of India Festival is sponsored by Westchester County Parks, the Indian American Cultural Association of Westchester, SunRise Pharmacy, Westchester Medical Center, St. John’s Riverside Hospital and Wells Fargo Bank.
