Astorino Packs Backpacks for Kids

WHITE PLAINS, NY — 

WHO:             Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino

                        Family Services of Westchester

WHAT:          For the seventh year in a row, County Executive Rob Astorino joins the Family Services of Westchester to pack donated backpacks with new school supplies for children who are in financial need.

The Sharing Shelf, which is associated with the Family Services of Westchester, began the “Backpacks to School” program in 2011, where they donated 200 backpacks to children around the county. Last year, over 1,100 children from more than 30 school districts received backpacks. The event will kick-off the program’s packing days where community members can volunteer to help pack the donated backpacks with school supplies.

The Sharing Shelf will have two packing days this month for all who wish to volunteer:

·         Saturday, August 12 2-5pm at the Broken Bow Brewery in Tuckahoe

·         Tuesday, August 22nd 9am – 3pm at the Sharing Shelf in Port Chester
